2.5 years after I promised myself to write a book ❤️

I made this promise to myself 2.5 (!) years ago:

Commit to a life of writing and finish writing a book, because that's what you’ve always dreamed of doing.

Written almost three years ago:

So how is it going?

  • Started writing Nora’s book in May 2022 and wrote “The End” in July 2023. I shed a tear and opened a 🍾

  • Took a break before implementing three rounds of feedback. This means: lots of rewriting but also hearing strangers say that they loved my MC, laughed out loud, and didn’t want specific scenes to end. 🩷

  • I have been querying agents since March 2024 and have received 18 form rejections. One agent assistant asked for a full copy to forward to the submission team. I am still waiting for a reply, but it was the first human reaction, so it felt like a little light on the query horizon.

  • Learned so much! Omg! About books, characters, publishing, art, writing writing writing, presentation, language, being an artist, myself.

How is it really going?

Uhhh… Sometimes I’m insecure about the process (and myself and my art and my Dutch/English language) and often impatient because I want to share my book with basically everyone, but mostly so so soooo good because I did what I promised myself. And I spend my days with words and fiction.

And!!!! What’s next? More projects are coming:

  • I’m writing my second book, Adela’s book

  • My Poetry Collection is alllllmost finished and I want to self-publish it in spring.

  • I will create things I haven’t even thought of. And I’m so grateful to feel the magic of writing. ✨✨✨✨✨
